Celebrate the music and legacy of the Jazz Epistles! Featuring original member and pianist Abdullah Ibrahim and special guest trumpeter Keyon Harrold, explore the sounds and impact of the Jazz Epistles, South Africa’s earliest and most influential jazz bebop band. The performance will include music from the seminal Jazz Epistles recording as well as hits from Ibrahim’s illustrious career.

This performance originally featured music legend Hugh Masekela.

Statement of Condolence - Hugh Masekela
Christopher A. Gruits, Executive & Artistic Director, and the staff of the Annenberg Center offer their heartfelt sympathies and condolences upon the passing of South African jazz legend, Hugh Masekela. A perpetual Annenberg Center audience favorite, Masekela has graced the Zellerbach Theatre stage many times, as recently as February 2015, and was originally slated to return again this spring. Each sold-out performance featured Masekela’s joyful spirit and spectacular blend of South African traditions and jazz, inspiring generations of dedicated fans. A social activist and true music icon, Hugh Masekela’s death is an immeasurable loss for our community, the music industry and the world.
