Philadelphia Inquirer picks Philadelphia International Children's Festival as top family attraction this weekend

The 26th Annual Philadelphia International Children's Festival returns Friday and Saturday to the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, offering performances and activities for families.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. both days with a musical version of The Little Engine That Could and a puppet version of The Man Who Planted Trees.Street Beat, a Los Angeles drum ensemble hip-hop and break-dancing group, will perform. Linda Tillery & the Cultural Heritage Choir present a sing-along journey through African American history.

The Annenberg Center Outdoor Plaza will have a Fun Zone with crafts, face painting, and hula hoop performances. Also performing will be Lebanese American master percussionist Joseph Tayoun performing Middle Eastern rhythms, the Give and Take Jugglers, Philadelphia School of Circus Arts, and more. The Phillie Phanatic is scheduled to arrive at noon Saturday.

New this year is the Children's Film Festival on Saturday, presenting The Blue Butterfly at 1 p.m. and White Tuft: The Little Beaver at 3 p.m.
