Two of South Africa’s true freedom fighters and renowned musical icons come together to honor their homeland’s 20th anniversary of democracy. “One of the most thrilling live performers around” (Rolling Stone), trumpeter Hugh Masekela blends his native South African roots with pop and jazz. Identified simply as ‘The Voice’, Vusi Mahlasela is celebrated for poetic, optimistic lyrics sung in his distinct, powerful voice. This collaborative performance will feature South African freedom songs as well as many of their individual hits.

There will be a pre-show chat at 7:00 PM in the Montgomery Theatre with Hugh Masekela, Vusi Mahlasela and Dr. Carol Muller, Professor of Music at the University of Pennsylvania. Seating is first come, first served.

This event is being photographed and/or filmed for archival and future promotion use. By attending the event, you waive permission for Annenberg Center Live and the artist(s) to use your image for these purposes.
